All aspects of the WriteTouch service have been designed to be as secure as
possible. Each step of data transfer, regardless of how benign the data, has
been secured.
Between a Clinic and the WriteTouch Server:
For all communication between the WritePad software at a clinic and
the WriteTouch server, there is a three part handshake and verification
process. Each transmission in the handshake process is encrypted minimally with
a 64-bit encryption; and any clinic specific data exchanged between WritePad
and the WriteTouch server is further encrypted prior to transmission with a
256-bit cipher.
Between a Patient and the WriteTouch Server:
All forms accessable by a patient on the WriteTouch server may utilize up to
256-bit encryption, so that any data entered by the patient on their computer
is encrypted to the level that their browser is capable. (Most modern browsers
are capable of at least 128-bit encryption.)
Any data finalized by a patient is encrypted with 256-bit cipher wand stored on
the WriteTouch server only until it is collected by the originating clinic's
WritePad software. This collection process uses the same three part handshake
and verification process described above before collection is allowed.
Each patient is also given the opportunity to save a copy of this final
(encrypted) file to their own computer.
Browser Security
If you are unsure of whether or not there is a secure connection between the
browser software you use, and the WriteTouch server, you should look for the
following things:

A normal web page address starts with http://, a secure (SSL) web page address
starts with https://

Lock icons will appear in various locations depending on the browser you are
using. Some may appear at the right of the address bar, some may appear at the
bottom right or bottom left of the browser window (commonly called the status
bar).

Note: Sometimes you can have mixed content (ex. secure form, nonsecure images)
In some browsers you may see a 'partial' lock icon. In others you may see a
warning:

There are web pages in WriteTouch that behave in this manner. This does not mean
that your data is any less secure. All of the data collected from the forms you
complete is delivered from and sent to web pages that are secured using
SSL.
When in doubt, you can try single-clicking (or) double-clicking a lock icon
(if available), or right-click on a page and select 'Properties' or 'View
Page Info'. For most browsers, this will open a window containing 'behind the
scenes' information about the page you are viewing. There will usually be
information about the security of the page somewhere in this window.
If you're still not convinced, you can contact
WriteTouch Support with
any questions you have about web page/browser security.
Browser Requirements
Supported Browsers
The WriteTouch service was designed to be viewed in Internet Explorer 6.x or
higher. Although we have worked to ensure that our pages may be viewed with
other browsers (Firefox, Opera, Netscape); should you choose to use a browser
other than Internet Explorer you may experience limited functionality on some
pages.
Viewing the sites in older browsers that are not standards-compliant will result
in irregular display and reduced functionality.

Other Security Questions/Answers:
Q: What if I don't have time to finish all the forms my
doctor wants me to complete?
A: If a patient begins a WriteTouch session and does not have time to finish,
they may save an encrypted copy of their progress to their computer so that
they can restart the WriteTouch session at another time and reload the data.
Q: What if I don't finish the forms and I forget to save
my progress?
A: Any data that has not been finalized by the end of the day () is purged
from the WriteTouch server. You will have to begin a new WriteTouch
session and re-enter your information.
Q: Is any patient information saved by WriteTouch (Addison
Health Systems)?
A: No. The only information the WriteTouch system stores is the information the
patient enters when creating an account.
Q: Is the information I fill out using
WriteTouch really safe?
A: Yes. Without getting too technical: All data transferred between a
clinic, the patient and the WriteTouch server has been abstracted as much
as possible so that three are three separate areas of security. Even if data
being transferred was intercepted and the encryption was cracked, there is
no information within this data that explicitly identifies the user. Unique and
random identifiers are the only thing linking your information to your
username, and also to your records at the clinic. No one person or system has
access to all of the identifiers necessary to match you and your data.
